Fuligin

In Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun, Severian has a cloak that's described as fuligin, which Wolfe defines as the black that's deeper than black or the darkest black possible. Looks like scientists have now come as close to that as possible, a color that absorbs 99.9 percent of the light that strikes it, a significant improvement over the previous record-holder.
